New: The DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph II Watches

New dial colours, a new case size and a redesigned bezel mark some of the changes offered in DOXA’s more manageable diving chronograph - the 2023 SUB 200 C-Graph II watches

The predecessors to the official SUB 200 watch collection were the extortionately priced limited edition DOXA SUB 200 T-Graph Anniversary Edition and the DOXA 200 130th Anniversary model. These paved the way for the launch of the affordable SUB 200 dive watch in 2019. The practical and durable dive watch is now available in an array of colours, each one packed with DOXA-typical characteristics and features. In 2020 DOXA released a diving chronograph in this same design, keeping its simple pared-down version of the SUB 300 category intact but giving it the SUB 200 touch. The SUB 200 C-Graph had an imposing case and offered the additional feature of a 12-hour stopwatch. But smaller case sizes are a trend worth mentioning right now. So, if you love the DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph dive watch but you’ve struggled to make its beefiness work on your smaller wrist, you’re going to want to read all about the new DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph II watches.

How does the C-GRAPH II compare to the first generation?

The first generation of the DOXA SUB 200 G-Graph was already a powerful and well-equipped tool. Its oversized case was loved by many, measuring a confident 45mm diameter. Its colourful dials were offered alongside a bezel in a contrasting colour, which makes the comparison between the I and II generations even vaster. The new C-Graph II watches are very different, with a newly designed bezel and a more metallic finish to their dials. The models have been redesigned in a profound way, tapping into the niche gap occupied by dive watch enthusiasts with small wrists. It’s important to note, however, that despite these changes, the C-Graph II watches take nothing important or significant away from the former large-sized models. Instead, they feature all the best elements of the former watch in a down-sized case that looks at home within a 42mm housing.

The new DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph II watch

Reduced in size all around, the new DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph II watch measures a 15.85mm thickness compared to its former depth of 17.25mm. Its case is now a much smaller 42mm diameter compared to the 45mm size of the original C-Graph. The robust dive watch has been made available in a total of six dial colours; deep blue (Caribbean), turquoise (Aquamarine) orange (Professional), yellow (Divingstar), silver (Searambler), and black (Sharkhunter). All are crafted from a stainless steel case and all offer a water resistance of 200 meters. A screw-down winding crown resides at 3 o’clock, adorned with the DOXA fish emblem in a matching colour to its dial whilst helping the case uphold its water resistance. Pump-style chronograph pushers also give the watch a masculine and bold look. A solid screw-down caseback is chosen to protect the movement from water damage once the watch is submerged in water.

Comparing this new generation of C-Graph watches with the first, these latest iterations certainly pop on the wrist with a bolder colour and a stronger personality afforded by a bezel that is executed in a matching colour to the dial. In those watches released three years ago, the bezels were all finished in black with a sapphire insert. These unidirectional rotating bezels, whether fitted to the C-Graph I or II models, however, are designed to rotate only in the counter-clockwise direction. This eradicates the risk of accidentally extending dive time whilst underwater. The bezels can be aligned with the minute hand on the main dial to measure elapsed time whilst exploring the daring depths of the ocean or when recording a personal best in the swimming pool. In the C-Graph II series, these rotating bezels are crafted from either ceramic or steel depending on the model in question. The black and deep blue models have bezels finished in ceramic, whilst the orange, yellow, silver and turquoise models have a steel bezel.

Of course, downsizing a watch changes more things than just the case alone. The dial has to be re-designed so that it can fit the three sub-counters upon its surface whilst not losing anything in the way of simplicity. The sub-counters, although closer together, are still concise, offering the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock and the small seconds at 9 o’clock. The hands, along with the baton hour markers around the outside section of the dial have all been treated with Super-LumiNova. The minute and seconds markings in black or white also donate a considerable level of detail to the dial. The entire surface of the display is topped with a domed piece of scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. The DOXA SUB 200 G-Graph II watches also boast dials with a radial sunray pattern to give each model a metallic finish when admired under the light.

The new DOXA SUB 200 G-Graph II watches are all powered by an ETA-based automatic movement and can be fitted on a choice of two straps. You can opt for the classic beads-of-rice stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp, or go for the sportier FKM rubber band option, available in a colour to match the dial. Whilst the bracelet version comes with an integrated wetsuit extension, the rubber bands feature pin buckle fastenings that feature the DOXA fish symbol.
