Looking for a Pilots watch with added appeal? The New Luminox P-38 Lightning watch is inspired by a military plane used by the US during the Second World War and is yet another timepiece honouring the partnership between the Swiss watch brand and one of the world's most famous aerospace engineering companies, Lockheed Martin. Meet the new Luminox P-38 Lightning Lockheed Martin watch.
Considering that Luminox has a proud history in producing tool and military watches, it makes perfect sense that it also has a diverse range of pilot watches, especially when you consider that the brand is the official timekeeper for Lockheed Martin, the legendary aerospace engineering company. Two of the latest additions to join the Luminox pilot watch collection are inspired by famous Lockheed Martin aeroplanes. These are named the Luminox P38 Lightning watch and the Luminox Constellation automatic watch. In this article, we’re going to run through the best features of the Luminox P-38 Lightning watch. Before that, a quick history of the brand and its relationship with Lockheed Martin.
Since 1999, Luminox has been partnering with Lockheed Martin – an aerospace company that comprises over 115 000 employees worldwide. It’s the innovator of some of the world’s most powerful jets such as the 117 Nighthawk Stealth jets. Once it was realised that the Luminox watch trailed by one skilled pilot could be utilised as a watch for aviation - it was requested for the brand to make a Luminox watch specifically for pilots undergoing flying missions under high altitudes and severe conditions. Since then, new models have been added to this pilot watch collection, including one of the latest additions to the line, the Luminox P-38 Lightning.
The new Luminox P-38 Lightning watch was released last year and is inspired by an important fighter plane used by the US in the Second World War. The Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft was a twin-piston engine, single-seat aircraft with a dual tail design and a central cockpit that connected the two engine bodies. The Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft was a dual-engine design that is now celebrated in the new Luminox P-38 Lightning watch in the form of a dual time zone feature, appealing to those who fly frequently on business or those who like to travel the world whilst relying on a robust timepiece.
The new Luminox P-38 Lightning watch is available in a black or off-white dial colour. Both timepieces look technical, confident and highly functional with the P-38 lettering showcased proudly at the centre of the display. Surrounding this is an inner 24-hour scale with markings that are identified by a miniature arrow-tipped GMT hand. The arrow motif is also executed in a vibrant red colour to compliment the tip of the central second hand. This practical and stylish tool watch measures a 42mm diameter and sits on the wrist at a height of 14mm. A fixed coin-edged bezel sits on top of the case as does a strong scratch-resistant and anti-reflective piece of sapphire crystal glass. As an ode to the famous aircraft, the back of the screwed-down stainless steel case of this watch is adorned with an engraving of the P-38 Lightning aeroplane.
In addition to this, the crown at 3 o’clock is also screwed down to ensure that the water-resistant capability of the case is upheld. This 100-meter water resistance forms a protective water-tight shield around the Ronda 515.24h Swiss quartz movement. This movement provides a 50-month battery life whilst sealed inside its robust housing. Both the off-white and black dial variations of this P-38 Lightning watch by Luminox are equipped with an hour track represented by visible Arabic numerals are fitted with the brand’s famous tritium gas tubes that promise 25 years of glow. The 3 o’clock position on the dial features a discreet date window and the arrow-tipped hour hand along with the tapering minute hand also feature the Luminox Light Technology (LLT).
In true pilot style, the 12 o’clock location of the hour track is interpreted by an upwardly pointing triangle flanked by two dots. The white dial version of the new Luminox P-38 Lightning watch is fitted on a stylish black leather band, whilst the black dial version is offered on a brown leather strap or a robust stainless steel bracelet to match the material of the case.
