Introducing the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Tribute to Ref 844

TAG Heuer extends its Aquaracer Professional 300 watch collection with a direct tribute to the ref: 844 model, equipped with an adjustable folding clasp system and a powerful in-house developed movement – the Calibre 5.

If you were wanting to split much of TAG Heuer’s catalogue into two sections, you could consider a large proportion of the Swiss brand’s models to be those connected with motorsport, whilst another large section is dedicated to diving. The latter is called the Aquaracer watch collection. The timepieces from this family, whose origins stem back to 1982, have continually upheld all the values of the company’s “SixFeatures” concept. For those who don’t already know, the six features were; 200-meter water resistance or more, a screw-in crown, a double safety clasp, a unidirectional bezel, a sapphire crystal, and luminous markings. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch has played an integral role in the brand’s heritage and has provided 40 years of continual service to professional and recreational divers alike.

Earlier this year TAG Heuer decided to extend the Aquaracer collection further with a line of Professional 300 models. This next generation brought with it new colour schemes and materials.  They also paid homage to an earlier model – the brand’s first dive watch ref: 844. In honour of this model, the new dive watches featured prominent luminous-coated hands and a striking 12-faceted bezel. Now TAG Heuer is releasing a further three additions into the collection. The watches are named the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Calibre 5 Automatic, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver Calibre 5 Automatic, and the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Tribute to Ref 844 Calibre 5 Automatic. Growing the Aquaracer Professional 300 line

Joining the 8 innovative Aquaracer Professional 300 watches released in April, TAG Heuer drops the Tribute to Ref 844 model into the line. The model is limited to 844 pieces worldwide, featuring a lightweight 43mm grade 5 titanium case with a comfortable and ergonomically designed rubber strap to complete its rugged dive-ready design. Looking at the details of the new addition, it is easy to pick out the elements that TAG Heuer commemorates the 844 model with. The bezel matches the dial colour, as do the blue and black variations of those Professional 300 watches released earlier this year. This feature is unidirectional and moves only in the counter-clockwise direction, ensuring that dive time can never be accidentally extended whilst underwater. As well as 300-meter water resistance, the case of the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 watch also features a screw-down crown adorned with the brand logo engraved into its surface and a screw-down caseback.

The adjustable strap feature

A beautifully engineered and integrated rubber strap is fitted to the new TAG Aquaracer Professional 300 Tribute to ref: 844 Calibre 5 Automatic watch. This is accompanied by a newly developed adjustable folding clasp. This fine-tuning system enables the perforated strap to adjust to the expansion and contraction of the wrist’s diameter depending on variable conditions. To do this, the wearer need only pinch and slide the button on the side of the clasp. Of course, the push-button type of folding clasp is the most secure of all watch fastenings on the market, preventing accidental unlocking when under the water or on dry land.

In the same vein as the Aquaracer Professional 300 watches released back in April, the new Tribute to Ref 844 watch from this new trio of releases promises all six features that define many a TAG Heuer watch. As well as the folding clasp, it features the aforementioned unidirectional rotating bezel finished in glossy black ceramic with a 60-minute dive scale with 12 sides. The case is 300-meter water-resistant and topped with a flat scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front, which protects the surface of the watch’s black dial from damage. The dive watch features a screw-down crown and luminous dial markings to highlight three central hour and minute hands and a set of chunky rhodium-plated markers around the hour track.

One of the additional features of the newer Aquaracer Professional 300 watches was the introduction of the cyclops magnifying lens above the date aperture at 6 o’clock. The Tribute to Ref: 844 watch offers this also. In true Aquaracer style, the back of the case has been engraved with the famous diver’s helmet upon the surface of the steel. Here the “One of 844” reference can be found.  The screw-down crown is resistant to damage and the bezel is easy to grip thanks to its grooved design. Although paying reference to TAG Heuer’s first dive watch - the 844 model released in 1978 -  this dive watch comes with an improved mechanical engine. The Calibre 5 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 38-hour power reserve when taken off the wrist.
