Introducing the Raymond Weil Maestro Small Seconds 2238 Watch
Sunday - 22 January 2023
The new Raymond Weil Maestro Small Seconds 2238 watch provides the running seconds in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock against an entrancing swirl pattern against a gradient grey display
Back in the 1970s, Raymond Weil played a pretty important role in reinvigorating the spirit of authentic watchmaking, having defied the odds to survive the crushing quartz crisis. This switch from automatic to quartz had a major impact on the sales of mechanical wristwatches and thus the only way to overcome this difficulty was to offer an automatic luxury watch at an affordable price. Raymond Weil was one of the very few watch brands that were able to do this. Today Raymond Weil has created a reputation for itself in the manufacture of wristwatches with a distinct style. Many models are inspired by the art and music industry with limited editions made in honour of some of the world’s most renowned singers and bands. Raymond Weil’s catalogue has grown year by year and offers a myriad of styles from simple three-handed models to GMT watches to sporty chronographs and even open-heart models. The Maestro watch collection is a firm favourite amongst fans. The timepieces within the family bridge the gap between formal and casual and feature classic designs that are perfect for pretty much any occasion.
Extending the Raymond Weil Maestro watch collection further is the recently released Maestro Small Seconds 2238. The model is housed within a 39.5mm case crafted from stainless steel and is inspired by the concepts of harmony and timing. Describing itself as a distinguished conductor, the Maestro watch is a symphonic performance of visuals, offered with a distinct guilloche dial and a perfectly tuned beating heart sitting inside. In this grey model, the Raymond Weil Maestro Small Second reference: 2238-STC-60001 is offered in a manageable size that will suit most wrists. The dial’s subtle use of lines creates a sense of texture and tone. Its grey display is slightly smoky in appearance, giving way to a set of slim central hour and minute hands. Transitioning from a mid-grey to a dark grey around the edges, the gradient grey dial of this new small second watch from Raymond Weil boasts a bewitching swirl pattern that draws the eye towards its centre. At the 6 o’clock location, a small second sub-dial is located. It has a snailed-effect centre and a silver-toned hand to match that of the main hour and minute hand.
More details can be appreciated in the dial of the new Raymond Weil Maestro Small Second hand upon closer inspection. The minute track around the perimeter of the dial is marked with crisp strokes whilst the hour track is executed with a snail effect. A ridged motif also marks the edge of the dial. To the right side of the dial, a date aperture has been set against a crisp white background to assist with legibility. All of these details on the dial of this new Raymond Weil Maestro watch for 2022 are protected by a sapphire crystal glass top with plenty of anti-reflective treatment. Whilst the sultry grey dial tones certainly add to the sophisticated style of the Maestro watch, two other colour options in green and blue are also available. These two dials offer the same smoked effect and all are fitted with a sapphire crystal glass exhibition caseback, affording a view of the automatic movement sitting inside their case.
The beating heart of the new Raymond Weil Maestro Small Second watch is the Calibre RW3240 with automatic winding and a power reserve of 38 hours. Based on the Sellita SW200, the movement boasts Geneva stripes on its surfaces and a total of 31 jewels. The watch is also fitted on a black calf leather strap with an imitation alligator motif and a stainless steel folding clasp engraved with the RW logo. The folding clasp also has a push-button security system for easy handling whilst on the go.
