Introducing the new DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl
Tuesday - 13 July 2021
Who would ever dream of putting a vivid orange dial on a dive watch? DOXA would. Who would ever envisage a white dial on a dive watch? DOXA would. Meet the new DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl dive watch, clad in white and ready for action.
When DOXA clothed the SUB300T model in an orange dial in 1967 it made just as much practical sense as it did anything else. Luckily it was also incredibly stylish to wear shore-side. It was the brand’s first professional-rated dive watch and it was turning heads for all the right reasons. It was developed in assistance with legendary explorer, conservationist, and filmmaker - Jaques Cousteau, along with the US Divers group. The orange dial was the most legible colour for use underwater, thus it promised clarity and safety in equal measure. The SUB 300T was the chosen watch to accompany Cousteau’s grandson, Fabien on his world breaking Mission 31. A total of 31 days were spent by him in the Aquarius deep-sea vessel while he undertook important scientific studies. So, colours have always played an integral role in DOXA’s benchmark-setting range of dive tools. Now it’s time for the SUB 200 Whitepearl – it continues in the footsteps of the brand’s bold and brave approach to watchmaking, defy norms with its eye-catching shade that reflects the frothy white waves of the ocean.
DOXA dial colours
DOXA has pet names for all of its brightly coloured dive watches. The company was a rare breed back in the 1960s when it began developing dive watches for professional and amateur divers alike. It managed to develop models with a superior 300-meter water resistance, which for their day, was a pretty impressive feat. This water-resistant capability was even achieved without the use of a screw-down crown. The much younger DOXA SUB 200 watch collection, however, does come with a screw-down crown to prevent accidental lateral movement inside its structure. This could ultimately make the functionality of the gaskets redundant. The SUB 200 models are a reflection of DOXA’s history in dive watch manufacture, from the likes of the SUB 300 Sharkhunter 11804-4, right up to modern-day tools in the brand’s current collection. The dials that are now available in the SUB 200, the SUB 300, and the SUB 1500T are elaborately presented in striking colourways. There’s the orange Professional, the silver Searambler, the black Sharkhunter, the navy-blue Caribbean, the yellow Divingstar, the newest turquoise Aquamarine and now the white Whitepeal model.
The new DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl watch
Let’s start with the band options for the new Whitepearl dive watch. Available on the brand’s famous beads-of-rice bracelet, the new DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl watch ref: 799.10.011.10 remains faithful to the functional and practical design of the metal band that DOXA has become instantly recognisable for. The well-engineered bracelet is crafted from stainless steel and comes with a diver’s extension and fine adjustment feature. The unique links of the bracelet are semi-circular in shape and feature a rounded surface that imitates the rounded lugs of the case. For a sportier alternative, you can opt for the white rubber strap in either a standard size ref: 799.10.011.23 or a small size ref: 799.15.011.23. The ‘DOXA fish’ symbol is meticulously engraved into the surface of the folding clasp on the “rice bead” bracelet, while the white rubber strap options reflect the colour of the dial very accurately, giving the model a resolutely modern appeal.
The case of the new DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl watch measures a 42mm diameter and has been crafted from 316L stainless steel. The glass front is that of a boxed sapphire crystal glass type. Having been treated with anti-reflective properties, you can access the time the dial instantaneously whether under the water, sitting beneath artificial lighting or stood under the sun’s direct rays.
The 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel turns only one way to ensure dive time can never be extended. A rotating bezel on a dive watch is a feature easily taken for granted, yet it is the detail of the bezel and its architecture, combined with an “ease-of-use” design that separates a well-built one from a not-so-well-built one. In the case of the DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl watch, the bezel is beautifully executed. The Super-LumiNova-treated numbers on the white display are designed to glow richly when in light-compromising conditions. In addition to this, the bezel is easy to grip thanks to its tooth-edged finish and frames the rest of the dial perfectly. Other features of the watch’s case include the aforementioned 200-meter water resistance and a screw-down crown but also a screw-down caseback too.
The dial of the Whitepearl dive watch from the DOXA SUB 200 range has been kept legible, clear and uncluttered. Its white surface features a painted minute track around the outer edge of the dial, framing an hour scale represented by baton hour markers. These indexes have been treated with Super-LumiNova, as have the visible central hour and minute hands. Other features on the dial include a central second hand, a date aperture at 3 o’clock and the world-famous DOXA lettering positioned underneath the twelfth hour. The movement powering the new 42mm DOXA dive watch is that of a Swiss-made self-winding mechanical calibre. Sat inside its robust 200-meter water-resistant steel housing, the movement can perform at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and produces a power reserve of 42 hours.
Easy to handle under cumbersome diving gloves, accurate, legible and beautifully executed in white – the new DOXA SUB 200 Whitepearl watch makes for a striking colour scheme for a male diver’s watch. The bold colour is beautifully balanced with a sporty rubber strap or beaded steel bracelet option and can be ordered here, or you can call our sales team for more information on 01335 453453 today.
