Introducing the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT
Friday - 19 March 2021
The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT is a sports watch with a second time zone primed for global travel. With a black or white dial option and equipped with an interchangeable strap system, its masculine and robust tonneau-shaped profile can be enhanced on a black rubber or metal integrated bracelet for versatile timekeeping.
The evolution of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon
Maurice Lacroix first released its interpretation of a robust luxury sports watch in 2016 with the Aikon watch collection. Like many luxury watch brands tend to do, it recreated the core design of the watch a short while after, reinventing it with a beefier, more rugged and bolder look named the Aikon Venturer. The original Maurice Lacroix Aikon was powered by a quartz movement but later fitted with an automatic heart two years after – just in time for its bolder and sportier look with an improved water resistance of 300 meters and a 43mm case width. Despite these alterations, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer remained a simple three-handed date version, promoting straightforward timekeeping. The latest design from Maurice Lacroix keeps the fundamental design codes of the Aikon watch true but with an added complication that is primed for travel – the new Aikon Venturer GMT watch.
Features of the Aikon Venturer GMT
As well as its case, movement and water resistance, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon has a bezel that has played quite an interesting role throughout the evolution of the collection, and since it’s now one of the integral qualities of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon GMT watch, it’s certainly worth a mention. At first, the Aikon watch featured a notched bezel with six claws that later transitioned into a beefier unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute dive scale seen in those models belonging to the bolder Aikon Venturer series. Now, with the Maurice Lacroix Aikon GMT model, the bezel doubles up as GMT 24-hour scale. The numerals 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 are picked out in black against 6 brushed stainless steel claws. These are alternated by white Arabic numerals representing the remainder of the 24-hour scale against a sleek black ceramic surface.
The sporty nature of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch is enhanced further by a case that, for the most part, is brushed. That said, contrasting accents in polished finishes also enable it to be worn alongside a dressed-up look when required. Clearly Maurice Lacroix has thought carefully about the versatility of the GMT version of the Aikon. The choice between the metal link bracelet and rubber strap also plays a crucial role in determining the overall feel and finish of the watch on the wrist. To accompany evening, formal or professional attire, the sophisticated stainless steel link bracelet does a fine job of seamlessly leading on from the case to compliment a suit with a streamlined flow. For pairing with casual, sporty attire or for wearing over the weekend, the black rubber strap option is both comfortable and practical. Each configuration is also available on a white or black dial.
The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch has a distinct tonneau-shaped case which, when paired with the serrated notches on the bezel gives it a remarkably masculine look. The watch also comes with Maurice Lacroix’s EasyChange system that will enable you to alternate the stainless steel and rubber strap options whenever desired. The options that offer both straps within one purchase can be found here on our site. Without the need for fiddly tools, it means the straps can be changed seamlessly and without requiring much effort. The caseback is engraved with a depiction of the world map with 24 time zones and is screwed down to help assist with the watch’s 300-meter water resistance.
Whether opting for the white or black dial version, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch delivers a high contrast display. Both dials have received a pop of colour – the GMT hand stands out in orange on the white dial or in a red colour against the black dial. Large rounded indices at each hour location have received plenty of Super-LumiNova to assist with timekeeping either underwater, during the night or in conditions where lighting is compromised. In true diver style, the 12 o’clock location is represented in a triangular marker – a distinguishable feature from the Maurice Lacroix Aikon line. On the white dial, the rhodium indexes have been black-coated. On the black dial, they are left in their natural state. Interacting easily with these hour markers are the chunky lume-coated hour and minute hands along with a lollipop second hand. In both versions, the date aperture is dressed against a black background at 3 o’clock to enhance the lighter numerals when keeping track of the passing days of the month.
Based on the Sellita SW 330 self-winding movement is a reliable automatic engine concealed behind the Aikon Venturer GMT’s sealed caseback. It provides hours, minutes, seconds, date and a second time zone. The Calibre ML 165 is a trustworthy movement that offers a 48-hour power reserve making it an ideal option for alternating with another Maurice Lacroix watch over the course of a weekend. In addition to this, it performs at an impressive 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The white and black dial options of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch are available to order from the new collection today, complete with metal bracelet and rubber strap configurations on both dial options, or a purchase that includes both straps combined in one set.
