Introducing New Seiko Prospex Hybrid Watches for 2022
Friday - 01 July 2022
The three new Seiko Prospex Arnie 40th Anniversary watches celebrate 40 years of the world’s first hybrid diver’s watch and are powered by a solar-powered movement.
The Seiko Prospex watch collection is expanding to accommodate three new Seiko Hybrid divers watches. The family of Seiko watches, which combines the words “Professional” and “Specifications” is home to a large range of reliable and precise wristwatches made for extreme environments. The three new models are named the Prospex Solar "Arnie" Hybrid Diver's 40th Anniversary ref SNJ033P1, the Prospex PADI "Arnie" Hybrid Diver's 40th Anniversary ref SNJ035P1 and the Prospex Limited Edition "Commando Arnie" Hybrid Diver's 40th Anniversary ref SNJ037P1. They each feature the digital screen at the bottom of the dial as opposed to previous versions where the screen would be located at the top. Also, switching sides are the pushers and the crown. Let’s meet the new Seiko Prospex Arnie watches.
The new Seiko Hybrid Divers watches
Ever since Arnold Schwarzenegger was spotted wearing Seiko’s analogue/digital hybrids, they acquired the “Arnie” nickname. The popular Hollywood actor wore the Seiko H558-5009 on his wrist in several of his action-packed movies including Predator and Commando. The classic 1982 Hybrid Diver's watch had functionality and a style of its own, whilst more recent models have promised improved technology that includes solar charging features built into the dial. When the first Seiko Hybrid watch was released it was a world first. Released in 1982, it combined analogue technology with digital and boasted a unique case shape named the “Tuna” by fans, since it resembled the shape of a tuna can. To celebrate 40 years of the world’s first hybrid diver’s watch with an alarm chronograph, these three new releases each offer a little something different, yet all nod to the success of the original that aided the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in 1984.
These three new models – the Prospex Solar "Arnie" Hybrid Diver's 40th Anniversary, the Prospex PADI "Arnie" Hybrid Diver's 40th Anniversary, and the Prospex Limited Edition "Commando Arnie" Hybrid Diver's 40th Anniversary watch are all powered by the Calibre H855. A new movement that promises superior accuracy and reliability. Other differences include a larger display at the south of the dial and additional diving log, depth metre and temperature measuring functions. All three models measure a broad diameter of 46.9mm and a height of 14.2mm. The Seiko Prospex Arnie’s 40th Anniversary ref SNJ033 is defined by its black dial and steel bodywork, whilst the Seiko Prospex Arnie PADI Powered Diving watch has a black hard-coated stainless steel case. Bright blue accents penetrate its black dial. The Seiko Prospex Arnie Limited Edition watch, again, has a black hard-coted stainless steel case and a black dial with red accents. The watch is exclusive to 4000 pieces.
Each of the black dials is equipped with LumiBrite coated hands and hour markers. The indexes around the hour track take the form of triangular, circular and rectangular-shaped profiles, whilst the central hour and minute hands remain chunky and visible during all hours of the day. The Seiko Prospex Arnie’s 40th Anniversary ref SNJ033 has a needle-fine seconds hand and a black unidirectional rotating bezel marked with a 60-minute dive scale for measuring elapsed time underwater. The Seiko Prospex Arnie PADI Powered Diving watch boasts an electric blue arrow-tipped minute hand and a matching colour on the bezel to mark out the first 15 minutes of dive time. The barrel of the 4 o’clock pusher is trimmed in the same blue colour, matching the 40th Anniversary model. The Seiko Prospex Arnie Limited Edition watch features a red second hand and red push-pieces at 2 and 8 o’clock.
As mentioned, all three of the new Seiko Prospex Hybrid Arnie watches are powered by the H855 movement – a solar-powered heart that promises an accuracy of +15 seconds per month. It also offers a power-saving function, an alarm function, full-auto calendar, and an LED function that works like a built-in light. All three new Seiko Arnie watches for 2022 also have a screw-down crown, a screwed caseback, and a Hardlex case front to provide ample protection over the surface of the display. The new Seiko Prospex Arnie 40th Anniversary watch ref SNJ033 is completed on a stainless steel bracelet that secures to the wrist with a three-fold clasp and a push-button release mechanism. The Seiko Prospex Arnie PADI Powered Diving watch ref SNJ035 features a sporty black silicone band, and the Seiko Prospex Limited Edition watch ref SNJ037 is fitted on a black hard-coated stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp and secure lock, along with a push-button release mechanism with an extender. The latter also features a caseback specially engraved with the limited edition number marked upon its surface.
