Introducing new Nomos Campus Club Absolute Grey and Future Orange Watches

Available in a 36mm or 38mm case size, the new beautifully presented Club Campus watches in steel are executed in vibrant orange and contemporary grey-coloured dials and are powered by Nomos’ first ever in-house movement - the highly acclaimed manual-winding Alpha.

Although one of the youngest watchmakers to reside in Glashutte – a small village in Germany – Nomos can still look back on an impressive heritage since it was founded back in 1991.  Glashutte watchmaking, however, spans a 175-year heritage and to mark this milestone, Nomos has released several limited edition watches, namely the Lambda and Ludwig models not so long ago, but more recently, the new Nomos Club Automatic Limited Edition watches in blue, black and green. We covered these here.

Dating back to 2007 when it was first released, the Nomos Club has become one of the brand’s most enduring collections and since then many twists have been added to the series. The Club Campus is one of those twists, bringing with it a younger and sportier persona to the wrist. The Nomos Club Campus is touted as the watch of choice to mark a graduation or a special milestone in life, mainly due to its spacious caseback for the option to engrave a special message upon. The series features automatic watches but is also home to manual-wound watches powered by the famed Alpha movement. Since the Campus is based on the original Club design, its outstandingly slender profile sits at a case depth of just 8.2mm on the wrist, doubling up at the perfect office companion.

Two new colours are now welcomed into the Club Campus watch collection – both of which are available in a 36mm diameter or a slightly larger 38mm size. The Future Orange version and the Absolute Grey. Meet the four new members of the Nomos Club Campus watch collection, powered by said Alpha movement and featuring indulgent velour leather strap and a robust steel case.

The Nomos Alpha movement

Since 6 of the very finest Glashutte movements are selected for those watches belonging to the Club Campus collection, it may be a good place to start with the manual-winding Alpha movement which powers the new Future Orange and Absolute Grey models. The movement is a highly acclaimed classic that has reigned throughout the entire Nomos catalogue ever since it was designed. More specifically, it has powered the Tangente, the Orion, the Tetra and the Ludwig.  It also marks the very first Nomos movement made by the German manufacturer and powers more of Nomos’ watches than any other.

The Nomos Alpha movement features a stop second mechanism along with a three-quarter plate and is adjusted in six positions. Traditional Glashutte decoration is administered by the steady hands of talented craftsmen and artisans sat at the workbenches of the company’s Glashutte-based facilities. This decoration includes blued tempered screws, Glashutte ribbing and perlage. Glashutte sunburst effect has also been applied to the ratchet and crown wheel. The in-house manual-winding Alpha movement can provide a running time of 43 hours once fully wound, enabling it to keep accurate time whilst off the wrist.

The Club Campus dial

The two new Nomos Club Campus Absolute Grey and Future Orange models boast dial designs that have been executed in the original Club Campus style. The hour track is represented in Arabic indexes at 10, 12 and 2 o’clock while the 4 and 8 o’clock locations feature Roman numerals. The remainder of the track features stick markers. Inlaid with a white Super-LumiNova coating, these indexes glow blue in dark conditions for assisted timekeeping during the night or whenever caught in light-compromising conditions. Rhodium-plated hands have also been treated with the same luminous material, while the second hand positioned inside the small second sub-dial at 6 o’clock is executed in a neon orange colour that stands out remarkably, despite being placed against an orange dial in the Future Orange models.

As mentioned, the back of the case of both 36 and 38mm models is solid stainless steel and conceals the performance of the movement behind it. The caseback leaves plenty of space for inscribing a special message upon it and features the 10ATM lettering and whale engraving to symbolise its water resistance to 100-meter depths. Both the Nomos Club Campus Absolute Grey 36mm (ref 712) and 36mm Future Orange (ref: 710) are completed on a light grey velour leather strap with a stainless steel fastening engraved with the Nomos lettering. The two larger models – the 38mm Nomos Club Campus Absolute Grey (ref 727) and the Future Orange model (ref: 729) are both finished on a much darker anthracite-coloured velour leather strap with a stainless steel fastening.
