Certina Powermatic DS PH200M Watch Review
Monday - 17 September 2018
During the sixties and seventies, Certina tested the limits of their designs via high profile research projects and expeditions. Soaring to exhilarating heights, speeding around the racetrack and diving deep underwater, the Certina line up always exceled. Their commitment to high quality, precision and reliability remains at the core of the brand today. Continuing to push limits Certina celebrates its 130th anniversary.
With a strong, international reputation, the sport-watch brand never compromises on quality. Known for their intricate Swiss workmanship, Certina never fails to deliver. Always striving to make an impact and bringing innovative concepts to the wrist, their success story is truly impressive.
Their exploration of the bottom of the sea inspired the brand to design the DS PH200M, a model solely dedicated to life under the ocean. Reimagined for a new generation, Certina revealed the classic at the Baselworld 2018; an example of the brands exceptional quality and craftsmanship that is witnessed in all of their core lines.
Delving deep into the history of the brand, it is clear to see that the diving instrument is just as relevant today as it was fifty years ago. The timeless design brings precision and durability to the wrist reviving the heritage piece with a high performance automatic movement of the latest generation.
The 2018 version features a 42.8 mm stainless steel case with a black unidirectional graduated bezel. The striking monochrome aesthetic is achieved via the black dial and white Super-LumiNova coated hands and indices. The contrast guarantees a highly legible dial enhanced by the coating that illuminates at night or deep in the ocean. Certina’s logo – the turtle – is engraved on the case back for a unique finish. Fasten the DS PH200M with a black and grey striped nato strap or a brown calfskin leather strap for a more formal occasion.
To guarantee water resistance of 200m the new DS PH200M is unlike its modern Certina peers with a rounded hesalite box glass with anti-reflective coating on one face and a scratch-resistant NEX Scratchguard coating as well as a separate mounting ring that ensures double security; a nod to its predecessor. The innovative Powermatic 80 movement promises precision and reliabIlity with an 80-hour power reserve.
Certina continues their dedication to ocean research through impressive timepieces like the DS PH200M that are nostalgic of the past yet look to the future. High performance is always at the top of the list for Certina in all that they do. Never failing to provide accuracy, legibility and trustworthy companionship for the wearer. Every dive, flight or lap around the racetrack, Certina has always kept on time for the last 130 years: an incredible feat that will continue for centuries to come.
