Arnold & Son Releases Nebula 41.5 Steel Watch
Friday - 18 March 2022
The new Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Steel is a fully openworked watch, powered by a beautifully decorated manual-winding movement that is put on show through both the front and rear side of the watch in a celestial-inspired design named after a phenomenon in space
To much acclaim, the Nebula watch was first released by Arnold & Son in 2016, laying bare its mechanical soul through the surface of its dial. It offered a strikingly symmetrical layout, with key elements of the movement appearing as if they were bursting out from the heart of the watch. After the initial Nebula concept, the watch was downsized to a compact 38mm but has now grown to a larger but very manageable 41.5mm diameter. Meet the new Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Steel.
Named after a giant cloud of dust and the gas that emanates from a dying star, the Arnold & Son Nebula watch is a celestial-inspired timepiece that captures the essence of the phenomenon through its unique dial layout. Explosive energy is characterized by several cleverly placed bridges – each one secured by bevelled screws and mirror-polished heads. The new Arnold & Son Nebula watch evokes plenty of sporty appeal and arrives just ahead of the Watches and Wonders 2022 event.
A look at the new Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Steel
The Nebula 41.5 Steel watch is, as its name suggests, crafted from robust stainless steel and measures a 41.5mm diameter. Its design follows in the footsteps of the Constant Force Tourbillion, with a simple time-only design that somehow manages to convey a very complex aesthetic. This illusion is all part of the watch’s architecture, with mechanical elements that radiate from the very centre of the display. Thanks to its new sportier feel, the Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Steel watch is incredibly versatile, promising to sit closely on the wrist with a set of brushed plaquette lugs that have been ergonomically formed for enhanced comfort on the wrist. Its sportier spirit enables it to be worn alongside casual attire as well as something smarter in the evening. The case of the new Nebula watch sits at a mere height of 8.73mm and features an almost absent bezel that gives way to a generous view of the watch’s beating heart.
This entirely openworked watch is a sight to behold. The blue coloured flange depicting the hour and minute scale around the edge of the dial is the only detail given to the display itself, minus, of course, the hands. These are faceted and finish with a syringe-type tip. The movement sitting inside the model’s 30-meter water-resistant case is largely PVD coated in blue. This includes the barrels, the main plate and the barrel drums. The moving components of the movement, as well as the radiating bridges, are rhodium plated for added textural and visual contrast against the shots of vivid blue.
The Calibre A&S5201 is developed by La Joux-Perret who shares residence of Arnold & Son’s manufacturing facilities. Its two barrels store a total power reserve worth 90 hours, whilst the lower part of the structured movement reveals the regulating organ, balanced by the small seconds feature on the other side. Flip the new Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Steel watch over and you’re granted a clear view of the manual-winding movement, executed to a beautiful standard in traditional decoration. This includes “Rayons de la Gloire” stripes – a sunray brushing and waves effect, circular-grained and bevelled wheels, bevelled edges and jewels inserted in chatons.
The new Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Steel watch is fitted on a blue rubber strap or a three-link bracelet crafted from stainless steel, with links executed in a mix of brushed and polished effects. The bracelet secures with an Arnold & Son stamped folding clasp and enables the watch to be worn with dressier attire or office wear whenever desired.
