Alpina Introduces the Seastrong Diver Heritage Green Watch
Tuesday - 29 November 2022
The unique mirror-shine surface of the new-for-2022 Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage watch reflects how the sunlight hits the surface of the ocean. It exudes a beautiful sunray-brushed finish that compliments some subtle changes to a watch inspired by the much earlier Alpina 10 Seastrong Compressor watch
If you're exploring the path of luxury dive watches and you wander off the beaten track within what is already an oversaturated market, you will come across some really interesting underwater tools trying to capture the true spirit of a dive watch but with a little added twist. That’s what Alpina has been succeeding at, having been in the sector for quite some time. The brand certainly knows what it's doing when it comes to developing watches with aquatic aspirations, even producing watches with an all-green aesthetic- a colour that is normally associated with pilot’s watches! In fact, the new Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage watch harks back to a model from much earlier in Alpina’s story...
Alpina released the first of its dive tools back in 1967 with the Alpina 10, also known as the Alpina 10 Seastrong a couple of years later. The Super Compressor 10 Seastrong dive watch had a water resistance of 200 meters and an anti-magnetic case, much like its pilot’s watches. It also featured two crowns – one to adjust the time and the other to control the internally rotating bezel, enabling the diver to measure elapsed time effectively whilst underwater. This was a case designed by a man named Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA) and featured a patented spring mechanism built into the back of the case to make it watertight. Now, the Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage range has been growing since 2016 in honour of this incredibly practical and stylish dive watch, but to mark 2022, the new vintage classic has been given a striking green attire. This new riff is inspired by all things green found underwater. Seaweed, plankton and the biodiversity of the ocean’s ecosystem. The surface of the dial also has a stunning mirror shine gloss that enables light to bounce off its surface in a way that is reminiscent of light hitting the surface of water.
Shooting through the three large main timekeeping hands on the dial is a generous portion of luminous matter that glows richly in dark conditions. In addition to always being able to easily access important time relating to how long a diver has been underwater, the internally revolving bezel of the new Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage Green watch can also be adjusted via the upper crown on the case. Whether you're calculating how long you have been underwater, or your remaining oxygen time, the timing bezel can be set for up to 60 minutes and used in conjunction with the dial’s legible minute hand. The other crown can be used to adjust the main time.
The new Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage watch is equipped with 300-meter water resistance and is crafted from stainless steel in a polished effect with brushed sides. It measures a very manageable 42mm diameter and features the beloved Alps engraved upon its sturdy solid stainless steel caseback. Although this new dive watch has updated dimensions, a taste of the past is still evident, with a 2 o’clock crown to move the internal rotating bezel and a 4 o’clock crown to wind the movement and set the time. The bezel, adorned with a legible 60-minute scale also features the recognisable triangular marker at 12 o’clock to locate the orientation of its position quickly at a glance. Its screw-down crown and caseback both help the watch to uphold a 300-meter water resistance, whilst its vintage style is enhanced by an ultra-domed sapphire crystal glass.
Enlivening the dial and strap of the new Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage watch is the brand’s choice of green colour. The silver-coloured stick hour markers and the central arrow-tipped minute hand and tapering hour hand provide a nice contrast against this glossy green dial. The central hands have also been filled with a generous helping of luminous material and are propelled by a reliable Swiss-made movement.
The Calibre AL-520 is based on the Sellita SW200-1 and provides a 38-hour power reserve. It performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. On the back of the case is an engraved image of the Swiss Alps, accompanied by the Alpina lettering which conceals the movement at play. To match the green tones of the dial is the green rubber strap with a textured surface and a stainless steel pin buckle to secure it firmly to the wrist.
