Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Limited Edition Collection Review
Monday - 17 May 2021
“Art on the wrist”. Alexandra Shorokhoff’s motto embodies their creative philosophy that a watch is more than just a timepiece, but a window into one’s individuality. Their latest limited edition collection, the Alexander Shorokhoff Neva, insists yet another work of art to the highest standards with a wavy guilloche dial inspired by the mighty European river Neva.
Founder and name giver to the Alexander Shorokhoff brand, Alexander Shorokhov is widely known for his love of contrasting cultures. Born in Russia in 1960 and later moving to Germany in the 1990’s to further his studies in architecture and civil engineering, he has always had an aptitude for extraordinary design utilising the precision of German manufacture with the flair, forms and colours of his home country. In 2019, Shorokhov travelled to the city of Saint Petersburg in Russia for a business trip where he became entranced by the river of Neva, a 74 kilometre river which flows from Lake Ladoga into the Neva Bay of the Baltic Sea, passing through the “Venice of the North”, a nickname saved for Saint Petersburg and its 340 bridges and magnificent architecture.
At the sight of the river, Alexander Shorokhov began to sketch what would eventually become the wavy guilloche dial of the Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Limited Edition collection. There are currently four models available in the series, two of which come dressed in a silver guilloche wave pattern and two in green. The waves extend out from the centre and stops only for the silver snailed small seconds dial at 6 o’clock and the surrounding snailed minutes track. Applied indexes mark the hours while a large 60 Arabic numeral sits at 12 o’clock. The green-dialled variants utilise black coated hour and minute hands while the silver dial models boast beautifully contrasting blue hands. The subtle inclusion of the small, curved seconds hand continues to commemorate the River Neva shaped into the letter “N” and the Alexander Shorokhoff logo is included at 3 o’clock.
The use of contrasting colours on the dial allows each Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Limited Edition watch to provide exceptional legibility, also helped by domed sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating on the front. The glass tops a choice of three different case designs. The silver-dialled Alexander Shorokhoff Neva is available with a classic stainless steel case and blue leather strap or one that has been treated with a unique blued IP coating with a contrasting white leather band. The green-dialled variant comes with a clean stainless steel case on a matching steel Milanese bracelet or a black coated case with a green leather strap. The cases measure to 43.5mm in diameter and 11.5mm in height and are treated to brushed and polished finishing.
A non-screw locked crown at 3 o’clock is complete with knurled detailing and engraved with the Alexander Shorokhoff logo, delivering a 50 metre water resistance rating beside the screw down exhibition sapphire crystal case back. Through the back, each Alexander Shorokhoff Neva Limited Edition exposes the Russian caliber 3105.Poljot based on the Swiss Valjoux caliber 7734 without chronograph complication. In typical Alexander Shorokhoff fashion, the manual winding movement is completely overhauled and decorated for an unmissable display of technical prowess. On the dial end, the movement provides central hands for hours and minutes, a decentralised seconds counter at 9 o’clock, date complication at 6 o’clock and a power reserve of 42 hours.
Each Alexander Shorokhoff Neva watch is a limited edition of 49 pieces and can be ordered on the Jura Watches website here. For more information on the collection and other new Alexander Shorokhoff watches, get in touch with the team on 01335 453453 or send us a message at help@jurawatches.co.uk.
