The Breitling Superocean II 42 Watch Review

by Angus Davies www.escapementmagazine.com

Breitling, a watch brand synonymous with making “Instruments for Professionals”, has revisited its Superocean timepiece for 2015. The diver’s watch can trace its origins back to 1957 and has proved popular with legions of watch lovers who appreciate its strong, masculine jawline.

This year, Breitling has reworked the case, slimming its profile and, in the process, enhancing lightness and wearer comfort.

The new Superocean is offered in 42mm and 44mm case diameters, as well as a new size, a 36mm version. Moreover, this latter variant of the Superocean is available in a white colourway, perfectly befitting feminine wrists.

My favourite variant of the watch at Baselworld was the Superocean II 42 with a blue dial. As the nomenclature implies the polished steel case measures a universally appealing 42mm in diameter. The model is also offered with a black dial, but it was the blue option which caught my eye.

The specification of the watch is impressive. It is a chronometer with certification from COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) and is water resistant to 500 metres.

Further choice is accorded with the ability to pair a coordinating blue rubber strap with the robust timepiece or select a stainless steel option. It is this latter aspect which I struggled with, vacillating between the strap and bracelet choices available. Therefore, would-be wearers may wish to visit their local CW Sellors stockist and appraise both prior to making their final decision.
