The Oris Watch Aviators’ Basel Mission
Wednesday - 29 April 2015
The spectacular Oris Basel collection is set to zoom around the Middle East and the Mediterranean securely fastened to a team of Oris pilots wrists.
The Oris Aviators’ Basel Mission involves flying to carefully chosen destinations across the region to showcase the exquisite timepieces launched at Baselworld 2015 last month. The journey will be undertaken by three men from the Oris Aviators’ Team who were selected by Karim Gerber - Oris’s Middle East Region Manager. Not wanting to miss out on this exciting mission, Karim himself will join two comrades to complete the trio. Paul Ruppeiner, an ex-Swiss Air Force Pilot and former Swissair pilot Simon Maurer will share alternate legs joining Karim Gerber in the Oris-branded two-seater Pilatus PC-7. The three pilots are extremely experienced and are honoured members of the exclusive group of Switzerland’s licensed air-show pilots and therefore, are well suited to this particular mission. Paul boasts a 40 year flying career and is the founder of the Oris-sponsored Fliegermuseum in Altenrhein.
Thessanloniki, Cairo, Riyadh, Dubai, Bahrain and Kuwait are a few of the exotic destinations included within the mission, which begins in Switzerland. Upon landing in each location events will be held to showcase the new collection with the unique opportunity to give specialist training to local retailers. The tour consists of 22 legs over a three-week period resulting in the team spending 40 hours in the cockpit with the Pilatus PC-7 reaching speeds of up to 500 km/h!
The Oris Basel 2015 collection is exquisite, diverse and strong with a variety of masterpieces to admire. The concept of the mission is an honourable and spectacular method of presenting the fabulous collection to a worldwide audience. The likes of the Artix GT Date Leather, the Audi Sport Limited EditIon II and the Calibre 111 Bracelet will surely be amongst the timepieces joining the crew on their journey.
