A Look at the Reservoir GT Tour Racing Spring Lap Watch

Engendering thoughts of a bygone era, Reservoir captures the spirit of motorsport and racing with its line of sleek GT Tour watches. Their dials resemble car rev counters from the 1980s. This time, the GT Tour Racing Spring Lap watch has received a splash of lime green and is inspired by sunbeams hitting the smoking racetrack.

In previous releases, the GT Tour Racing Carbon watch seemed to take inspiration from features of the Porsche 928 with their sleek black dials and red needle hands, although the brand has always claimed that these watches are not based directly on any one particular model. In 2021, however, a particularly popular model came along. Reservoir debuted its GT Tour Carbon IDEC Sport Limited Edition watch. It took on the sporty look of the LMP2 prototype and was carried aboard the number 48 IDEC Sport LMP2 car that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Man’s event during August of that year. Le Mans has been the small French city respected for endurance racing for many years and has attracted some of the world’s finest drivers to compete across four classes in an event that determines automotive stamina, performance and precision.

The GT Tour Carbon IDEC Limited Edition watch features the brand’s retrograde complications combined with a masculine and aggressive aesthetic. Crafted from matte black carbon and measuring a 43mm diameter, the watch had a broad sloping bezel and wider tapering lugs that further enhances an athletic character. The dial had a charcoal grey base whilst the strong sapphire crystal glass front and caseback featured a striated oval pattern upon their surface. The watch celebrated the collaboration between the watchmaker and IDEC Sport and was produced in a limited run of just 24 pieces worldwide after Reservoir secured the role of official watchmaker for IDEC Sport for the European Le Mans Series 2021. This year, Reservoir has released the GT Tour Racing Carbon watch in a very similar style, which you can read about here, and the GT Tour Racing Spring Lap in zesty green accents, which we’re going to talk about today.

The new Reservoir GT Tour Racing Spring Lap watch

The Spring Lap version of the GT Tour collection by Reservoir is inspired by sunny car races of a bygone era, where beams of sunlight would kiss the smoking tarmac and create a play on light between the tyre and track. The watch also adopts the codes of the “Classic” car race. This new coloured extension is an unexpected one but certainly adds a splash of colour to any summer wardrobe. The bright green needle-like hand in the middle of the dial is a retrograde minute feature, whilst the scale measuring from 8 to 4 o’clock evokes the speedometers and dashboards of 1980s racing cars perfectly. The minute scale around the edge is also raised around this section, whilst a date window at 6 o’clock is presented in white for ease of readability. Below this is a retrograde power reserve display to show the remaining energy levels of a sophisticated movement sitting inside the watch’s case.

The new Reservoir GT Tour Racing Spring Lap watch is crafted from a mix of polished and brushed stainless steel and features sloping lugs, a 43mm diameter and a strong sapphire crystal glass front. The back of the case is also sealed with this same sapphire glass material, offering a glimpse into the performance of the movement whilst it works. The watch is also 50-meter water resistant and comes with a screw-down crown and a knurled finish for an easy grip. The beating heart inside the case is the Caliber RSV-240. The self-winding movement is a patented 113-piece module that produces an impressive 56-hour power reserve once fully wound and beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

As mentioned, the GT Tour Racing Spring Lap watch has been released alongside the GT Tour Racing Carbon watch with a beautiful woven carbon fibre dial that plays host to a single needle-like hand in red. The layout of the dial remains the same as the Spring Lap, with a squared-off date in white at 6 o’clock and a legible retrograde-style power reserve indicator underneath. The same as this GT Tour Racing Carbon watch, the Spring Lap model is offered on a robust stainless-steel bracelet option, which secures to the underside of the wrist with a refined folding clasp. Additionally, the watch is also offered on a black leather strap with larger sporty perforations and contrasting green stitching that runs down both sides of the band. The watch also comes with an additional black NATO-style strap supplied within the presentation box of the new Reservoir GT Tour Racing Spring Lap watch.
